Working with me

For me, therapy is a blank space where one can step off the hamster wheel of life and take time to reflect on the self-determinant aspects of life. To be human is to feel pain. I believe in harnessing the indelible human spirit in all of us, the spirit that strives to survive despite these inevitable hardships. While emotional pain and distress is unavoidable, it’s effect on the outcome of our lives is not. Through building a positive and supportive therapeutic alliance with my clients, I work toward finding effective means of managing these adversities so as to yield more positive life outcomes.

Other interesting things..

I am trained in Psycho-Sexology through the European Society of Sexual Medicine, so am qualified to do gender affirming therapy, alternative relationship and family counselling (polyamory and open relating) as well as working with the LGBITY+ community.

I am an executive member of SASHA, the South African Sexual Health Association, http://www.sasha.org.za, which is an organisation that provides training to medical professionals from various backgrounds who all have a special  interest in sexual health. As such I enjoy working with children, adolescents, couples and individuals in the area of sexuality and gender. I am also a member of My Sexual Health: wwwmysexualhealth.com. which is a national Clinical sexual health service provider.

I am currently completing my PHD in the department of Public Health and Family Medicine at UCT. My research focusses on the intersectionality of race, class and sexuality in adolescents.

I have also held positions as lecturers at the South African  College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) and also the University of the Western Cape.
