About

Working with me

For me, therapy is a blank space where one can step off the hamster wheel of life and take time to reflect on the self-determinant aspects of life. To be human is to feel pain. I believe in harnessing the indelible human spirit in all of us, the spirit that strives to survive despite these inevitable hardships. While emotional pain and distress is unavoidable, it’s effect on the outcome of our lives is not. Through building a positive and supportive therapeutic alliance with my clients, I work toward finding effective means of managing these adversities so as to yield more positive life outcomes.

Other interesting things..

I am a member of SASHA, the South African Sexual Health Association, which is an organisation of medical professionals from various backgrounds who all have a special  interest in sexual health. As such I enjoy working with adolescents, couples and individuals in the area of sexuality and gender. I also belong to an academic reading group that looks at issues pertaining to Queer theory, working with LGBTI+ clients and  the intersectionality of race, class and gender.

My other great passion is working with children through play therapy and parent coaching. I have vast experience working with children and offer play therapy at all my practices. I have done extensive volunteer and paid work with children in low-income settings and children who are victims of sexual abuse. I trained in the Child and Family Unit, as well as the Intellectual Disability Unit at Lentegeur Hospital. Prior to that I worked in a large multi-national NGO running multiple self-development programmes for children.

I am currently also a part-time lecturer at the South African  College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) where I lecture and supervise students who are doing their final year practicums.
